Is there show something in AWS D1.1 that about WPQR about stud welding. I mean, when do we need to make a new WPQR of stud welding when something changed. For example the automatic mechine changed to other brand.
Can somebody make a list of them?

Anybody knows

I just went through the Nelson Stud catalog and they mysteriously do not quote any AWS specs except for "AWS D1.1 for physical and chemical propereties of mild steel studs".  In the back of my mind I thought there was a different AWS spec just for stud welding (using the gun, not the manual fillet weld).  As I have time, I will check AWS Codes.

Here it is:  AWS D1.1 Section 7, Stud Welding.

Check out D1.5 clause 7

I know that charpter. But there is nothing about important factors. What if the automatic stud mechine change to another brand. What if change another kind of gun. What if we have two kind of stud with different diameters.

Unless I'm mis-understanding your question, I believe that AWS D1.1:2008 Clause 7.7 The Pre-production testing qualifies the operator, machine, studs, and positions. If you have out of position or unapproved base materials, then you have to go through all of the testing in Clause 7.6 first and then use Clause 7.7 for each shift of stud welding after that.

It is not clear in that charpter

Changing stud guns, brand name, or stud diameter are not considered to be important factors, however a different setting is required when there is a change in stud diameter.  For arc stud welding, the current and weld time are automatically controlled by the settings on the power supply.  The settings on the power supply are dialed in based on the stud diameter, and the results are subjected to production proof tests.  One setting that is not automatic is that when setting up the gun, the “legs” on the gun need to be adjusted in or out based on the stud length.  The stud should extend about 1/8” beyond the ferrule.  This setting affects the plunge, which in turn affects fusion to the base metal and weld quality.

So you mean that when diameter changed, we should prepare a new WPQR.

No.  As long as you're using an approved D1.1 base metal (Table 3.1 Groups I & II), you're welding studs in the flat/downhand position, and the studs meet the mechanical and material property criteria of Section 7, you are fine.  No formal procedure qualifications are required.

No. I think the stud base need to pass the stud base qualification tests(Annex G).

That's for the stud manufacturer, and I think you're working from an outdated code because Annex G was moved back to Section 7.

WPQR= Welder Performance Qualification Record
AS John stated earlier AWS D1.1 Clause 7.7 gives the information you are looking for.
AWS Clause 7.7.1 Pre-Production Testing
7.7.1.1 Start of Shift
Before production welding with a particular set-up and with a given size and type of stud, and at the beginning of each day's or shift's production testing shall be performed on the first two studs that are welded.
Stud Welding parameters are checked daily or at the beginning of each shift
7.7.4 Operator Qualification says that the welder or welder operator is qualified after satisfactorily doing the pre-production testing in 7.7.1
Hope this Helps
Good Luck
Marshall

WPQR= Welder Procedure Qualification Record

we should prepare pqr before the fabrication.
