I am looking at a welder certification.  It says the person is qualified in the 3G position.  I am unsure what this qualifys them to weld.  Does this mean they can weld a fillet or just a groove or both in the flat, horizontal and vertical?  Thanks for any help

Need more info to give the best answer.

Things we need to know.

The applicable code on the cert.

Base metal

Base metal thickness

Process

Vertical progression of the test...<up or down>

Give us those things and you will get a well rounded answer.

I hope your not thinking about putting a welder to work on code compliant production elements with just a piece of paper that says the welder is certified...  Best to test the welder yourself.
