I do not know that much about structural work. Curious about the flat plate at the butt welds of the columns. Is that a common practice? Is not just butt welding the beams together acceptable?
Yeah... I didnt even notice that they put them on all four sides of the beam. 2 fishplates would have been PLENTY.... I have never used 4 fish plates on one joint. Guess it really isnt hurting anything, just unnessesary.
Not 4 sides 1 on each flange + 1 on the web = 3. The one on the web was for the line up and backing strip. Two on the flanges were for reinforcement. That is the way they wanted it.
