I'm mostly with Wade. If I want a low hydrogen electrode I use the XX18's.
While I prefer 7024 over 7028 it is not a low hydrogen and can't be used in many applications.
And in the shop, as well as when appropriate with winds and other factors here in AZ, I will take a wire feed anyday.

I don't think you see this so much in a shop as in the field. In a shop situation, FCAW is easier to have and use. If you are needing high depositing welding 60 feet in the air, or in a wide open situation where wind cannot be blocked or controlled, the 702X SMAW is better. The equipment is a stinger, ground and a welder.
Nope. When we run LH its XX18 or 11018. I like 7024 much better than 7028 it's faster in my opinion. We still burn a bunch of stick due to accessability and time in the field over FCAW. In the shop though almost everything is GMAW, FCAW and GTAW.
