I was wondering if a remote like you use on a tig torch, that you work by your thumb, could be used on your stinger. It would help me when I am doing pipe. If any of yall know of any thing like that please let me know.

Yes it will, but the problem is that the sparks will clog the wheel or burn up the control wire. Many pipeliners have a remote that the helper usually operates. These box units are bullet proof and have heavy insulation, whereas the tig units are comparatively delicate.

I got the romote in a box, I was thinking it would be easier when I weld pipe by myself. Thanks for the info.

Since you have a boxed unit, the question is...how good are you at one handed welding?

thats funny, I welded xx heavy 4" today. it was not fun, especially capping with 3/16lh.. one handed

What machine are you using? I have finger tip controls for my 69 Redface, Vantage 400 and the Trailblazer. They all work great but are not bullet proof as Superflux stated. Want more info let me know- Ted

I got a big blue 402D Miller.

If that has a 14 pin remote then the standard tig controler works great. Get the one that is east/west and tape it to your stinger. To keep weight down rig you own cable and tape the whole thing to your welding cable. It's not bullet proof but it's pretty tough. Don't have to worry about getting them wet. Also I use Tillman tig gloves to smaw so it's easy to work with.

How far away from the machine can you get.
Parent - - By TRC (***) Date 11-13-2010 22:04
As long as you make the cord, this isn't a wireless. Ted

ok that might work pretty good I use the tillmans gloves too. Thanks.

That is cool. Do they make one for the 300D classis.

I have one of the tru remotes and if you were to buy one, make sure you get the 12 volt version. The first one I got was a 120 volt and it plugs in like a regular remote, but the only problem was that your machine will stay in high idle mode and I didn't like that so I exchanged it for a 12 volt system.
You just connect the two wires straight to the welder battery and the other cord plugs into your remote outlet, it works awesome!
They do make them for the 300D and most of the other Lincolns and Millers.

pretty cool so I assume you almost don't need a helper then right?

Who will run the buffer and reach for the beer?

Any idea what the TRu-Remote sells for? I did not see it on their web site.
The Miller Wireless Hand Control, http://www.millerwelds.com/wireless/hand.php , list for $999.

It is interesting that both manufacturers seem to really push the cost savings of using their remote.

I paid 1300 for mine, express shipping included. It comes from Canada.
They say that it works up to 500 feet but I don't have that much welding lead and hopefully never have to string out that much lead.

I got a quote for my Classic II two weeks ago- $1600

there use to be an old pipeliner named roberta   out of local 250 who got tired of her helpers not knowing up from down
who had a dial switch taped to her stinger working as a remote worked real slick but you still need a pimp to brush and grind and feed you rod lol
