Has anyone ever seen one or know of a company that would do a conversion? Fowler maybe?

I thought about doing a project like this myself also. I would like to use a Deutz engine in it however. It wouldnt necessarilly have to be a shorthood though. A redface would be a good one too. I wonder just how much trouble it would be to do one like that? Seems like it would be pretty straight forward... Any thoughts???

Some in south TX, LA, AR doing it with Yanmar.  Seen them converted with Duetz or Perkins too.  Engine, labor and fitting is the main expense and if you spend too much for a bit more might as well go buy a new 200D with a warranty or find a used one with a diesel.  Everyone is all talk till they find out what it cost to do and then don't have the $$$$ to convert it.

You can also do it with a kubota and its not expensive. You can buy reman kubota engines for about the same as a reman f162

Got to remember most small diesels are not all the same.  The ones for welders have to run slower at 1500 to 1800 rpm while others aren't going to pull or peak out on torque & hp till up to 2100 to 2600 rpm which is too fast for a old shorty.  Many for forklifts, marine or other uses aren't going to work unless they are made to pull the load at the slower rpms.  Some marine engines turn the wrong rotation too.   Yes the Kubota will work but has to be the right one.  If you know of reasonable rebuilt ones that will work everyone here is all ears.

I would definitely have to agree with you as far as the cost is concerned. I am quite sure that this could be an expensive project unless a guy was willing and ABLE to do the majority of the work himself.
Now, here is another question... Are the generators on the new 200D's the same in every aspect as the older round barrels found on the redfaces and shorthoods?

The new 300D and 200D are still pure DC current unlike others out there.  The new 200D has that custom arc on it now, 1750 watts auxillary plug output and still runs at 1450 to 1600 rpm.  They are all copper and have been since they came back with the Classic that was why the Classic name when putting copper windings back in them again after the hex generators that had aluminum.  They have gone up in price some again but so has everything else.
