I called today and checked on prices for welding lead and the salesman said they just got a notice that copper was going up 20%. He said that was the largest one time jump in prices he has ever seen. If it`s so, welders and leads, and of course anything copper is going up.

I did notice those nice prices on flea bay and the sellers have vanished.  I was getting 2/0 carol and xcellene off there for right at $2 a foot with free shipping.  Thanks for the heads up.

I hear scrap #2 copper is $4/LB, that is high, so You know new copper products will be higher too.

Kitco lists new delivery copper prices at $4.36 /lb.  These are record high prices.  100' of new welding lead will cost you plenty.
There are new Copper ETF investment funds taking physical delivery and causing the prices to soar.  Demand from China doesn't help either.
Copper was once used in coins and was third in value after Gold and Silver.  The METAL value of a pre-1982 U.S. penny is now worth almost 3 cents.  How's that for inflation!

Pre-1982 penny value formula. Metal composition is 95% copper and 5% zinc.  Copper value only used in formula:

(4.3633 [copper price per lb.] × .00220462262 × 3.11 × .95)  =  $0.0284201.  That means $100 face value of pre-1982 pennies is worth $284.

I just got a price of $4.47 per foot for 2/0 welding lead. I wanted to replace my original lead, about 300 foot, might just hold off.

That's what I just paid for 2/0.....cuz they stole ALL of ours from our shop and welders, plasma, transits, 3 fork lifts etc.

I'm so glad the recession is over and e'rybody has a job and plenty of money & no need to steal. (some sarcasm detected)

I was talking with a farmer friend of mine the other day and he said a friend of his was selling corn and had it listed on some market website for farmers( I don't know???) anyhow, said China is buying everything, guy had his corn listed and China bought everything he had listed, 30-40k bushels I think is what he said.

I checked lead about 2 weeks ago and it was around 2.35/ft, thought that was high, now 2.80/ft......I'll never get new welding leads at this rate! LoL!! No wonder I get edgy when people are walking, rolling stuff near my welding leads, dang stuff costs a fortune.

Had to go buy some new lead today because one of the yoyos I work with ran over it with a 2 stage snow blower. $3.20 a foot for 1/0 at Linweld. Ouch!! Don't want to be in his shoes when the boss finds out.

If the price of copper gets any worse it may be cost effective to hire an armed guard to stand over the welding leads at night.
