I bought a 2006 Dodge 3500 3 years ago with an automatic transmission. Since i have owned it, i have replaced the transmission "tailhousing" five times. It has cracked in the same spot every time. I had the transmission rebuilt last summer as i had issues with the overdrive. I took the pickup in for its scheduled oil change and they showed me the the tailhousing has cracked again... I do have overloads on this truck and dont remember bottoming out the rear suspension at any time. The dealer thinks that i have too much weight on the pickup and need air bags, as the "bottoming out" is causing the crack in the transmission.
You have seen the Pics of my Dodge Rig. I have it LOADED ! I pull a 40' gooseneck and my Fifth Wheel all over the country. You are probably also aware that I have my hitches set 2' behind my axle. I have NEVER bottomed out with the Timbrens. Air Bags will add 500 lbs MAX to your capacity. Timbrens will add 1500 at less than half the price. So, yes, Timbrens will solve your problem of bottoming out. I'm not sure about the cracking though. I have never heard of that due to an overload
Installed a set on my 96 one ton last summer took less thana hour, on mine remove the bumper pad, timbren spring went in its place, hand tools and a jack, very happy with them, had read cactus's endorsement, glad i did Richard
They are easy to install. However, the shop I use near me has installs them with the price. I think mine were about 315.00. It took them about 10 minutes to put them on
shorthood I found this about tailshafts cracking. I would check balance of drive shaft. This came from mopar1973man.com
He needs to get the drive shaft balanced and check the u-jounts and hanger bearing. The bottoming out excuse is as lame as they come, won't happen. If the T-case is cracking the CV joint on back of front drive shaft goes bad and causes this most times but drive shaft balance and bad u-jounts can do it also. 2002 silver Ram 2500 qclb 4X4 bombed to 560hp 986tq play toy & power puller 118k 2005 burgundy/silver 2500 4X4 Smarty Jr PSM intake Unmuffed 407hp 732 tq, 85k 2003 VW Jetta TDI stock 45 mpg overall average,151kdrive shaft.
