Finally!!! Sent in my last payment on the truck this week! It's going to be hard to alter my thinking each month. Always thinking, truck payment due on the 27th, insurance due by the 11th. Every month for the last 3 years has been this way. Now, insurance due by the 11th.....no truck payment!:grin: Guess that just means I need to put away the truck payment I don't have to make into a savings so I can have a good down payment for a newer ride at a later date.

Ahhhhhhh, sweet relief!!!

May I suggest a Winchester Model 70 this month with a Leupold VX3 next month?

I am sure you will adjust to these new options quickly.

To heck with that down payment, throw that money in the bank until you have enough to pay for a new one. I have gone over 10 years without a vehicle payment and feel great NOT giving the bank vampires a penny of interest. The vehicles do not drive any different, but I can pick up two radio stations out of Albuquerque that the ones with payments cant. And there is not a better feeling in the world walking out of a dealership after writing that easy one payment check.
I am a die hard Dave Ramsey fan. Debt is dumb. Cash is king. And a paid for vehicle means you aint no foo!

I hear you there Kahunna!! That's my dream! Walk into a dealer and say, "hmmm, I like that one, how much? Nope, I don't like that price and I'll take my CASH to somebody who can do me better". I think that sounds like a great idea.

I learned a while back to NEVER tell the sales man that you have cash.. Best line I ever did was told the sales guy... I don't care what interest I have to pay I just want the truck CHEEP...  They did the lone in house at 12% interest and I had 780 credit.  They were going nuts to write me up.. I got a 2007 dodge diesel 350 flatbed brand new off the lot TTL included for 30k...

Wrote up the papers and drove it off the lot then sent a pay off check the first month...

I have found they don't wheel and deal as well with cash or they haven't with me anyway..

Either way you want to go Shawn.....I have not made payments on any vehicle in years and years...Course I do not buy new either..I agree...just buy it and go on....I am just trying to get to where I can do that with houses and land, then I think it will all be alright.

Doing pretty well, thanks.  Still slugging it out down here in south Tejas, trying to put 26 years of apathy in the ground where it belongs.  Glad to see you got back in the game.

" It's going to be hard to alter my thinking each month."
My experience is that it wasn't my thinking that had to be altered. It was the Misses' shopping gene that kicked in requiring the alteration!

Shawn sorry   I forgot to say

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Shawn,
You must be doing everything right to have paid off a rig in so short a time. Keep up the good work man!

I've had to put a stop to that already. We went out to eat one night, rare thing around here. Anyhow, next day she says, "I want to take the kids to xx bbq joint tonight". I said, hmmm, sounds good but we just fed the hoard last night to the tune of $xx.xx dollars, why do we need to go out tonight and spend more money?" She agreed. Got to keep my level headed thinking and not think, oh boy, time to go crazy! Although, I could not pass up the deal on that core drill!!

Make EVERYTHING TAX DEDUCTIBLE!!! If Wife is a business partner, then hers and your meal ticket is deductible as a "business meeting". Kids are NOT!
Go on vacation/weekend get-away; pass out business cards to Legitimate places needing gates and fences, etc. Keep a log of ALL cards passed out, and to whom they are given. That core drill is of course a necessary tool for the truck.
Keep on Truckin'......

I just sent my last one in a little over weeks ago too.  It was a really good feeling.

Congrats on the payoff Shawn.

You sound like you're trying to keep from going overboard, but a couple of extras for the wife's sake can be a very good thing.

Have a Great Day,  Brent

Yes,
Take Brent's advice and buy the Wife a new vacuum cleaner.
