Im in the market for a new machine.  Has anyone had any experience with the new SAE300?  Im having trouble finding reviews of the new redface.  I have a Classic 300G now but cant afford gas for the pig.  So Im not sure whether I should stick with the tried and true 300D or try a new unproven machine.  Any advice would be appreciated. And sorry for dragging up another SAE300 post.

Alot of hype on the "new" redface SAE 300 my 300D will weld with them all or the vantage will too

I'm actually on board with the others. If your gonna spend the large coin on a new machine kick in a bit for the vantage. I love my sa and it would likely be great if I was just out pipelining or something but I'm all over the place. Aluminum repair last week, hand rail this week, LN 25 on a few jobs and looking at a spool gun for field aluminum welding but the sa is a bit of a problem cause of the constant current thing. Like I said, love my sa but when it comes to buying another machine, I'm going vantage or something of that nature for the bells and whistles. But I guess that all depends on whether or not you need all the bells and whistles. Just my .02

You should probably use Your Ranger to power a spool gun, but if You need one that will run of an SA200 [voltage sensing & DC Aux.] I have an Airco built for the military I could sell You. It is in great shape, but I never needed it, so havn't tried it. Let Me know if You are interested.

Got a buddy that just got one. He said that because both controls are continous that he had trouble finding where to set it at when he first started running it. He finally found the spots to set it at and loves it can put a slick cap on that's for sure I'll probably be getting one also.

Right now work has slowed down some, but if it picks up and steadies out, I'll be looking to buy a Vantage 300 or 400. Guess I need to look up the specs on the compact 500........

The 500 looks good, but how is it on fuel?  Compared to the 300d or sae300.  Ive used a Vantage4 for years and was never satisfied with the fuel consumption.

I can get about 40 hrs out of mine. I have the Turbo Perkins in mine

Dont listen to Cactaus. He loves his disadvatanges. If your going to be doing all kinds of welding then by all means buy a vantage. If your doing nothing but pipeline work a sae300 will do you fine. I own a new redface and I love it(I've own a disadvantage too). No it wont run your house but if I wanted a generator I'd go buy one from lowes. The new 300 does take a bit to get used to because of the constant variable ocvs. But once you get the hang of it. It's a real sweet machine. My helper can make a nice weld with this machine. It does use a little more fuel than the disadvantage.  I run 3/16 or 30mm rods all day with this machine and I feel it makes my job easy. 400hrs and counting and no problems or complaints

How many Amps you running the 30mm rods at? If the SAE300 can burn a 30mm rod it will do anything!!! LMAO

Totally agree with Hillbilly 100%! Never welded on pipe with a Vantage I liked. I know a few guys running them new 300's, they say they weld better than the 200D's. Would you agree to that Hillbilly? Haven't run one myself yet.
Parent - By hillbilly delux (***) Date 07-18-2011 03:30
I would say yes they run better than a 200d. They are soft puddled like a short hood or an f163. There arc dosent short out so much like a 200 and seem to be stable like a 300d. And yes that was a typo. I meant five mm not 30mm
Parent - - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 07-18-2011 01:42
My guess is that 30 MM is a typo. 25.4 MM = 1". 30 MM is about 1 3/16"

no its 5mm  8010 pipeliner i love them i think what he mint
Parent - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 07-18-2011 02:01
So the mm is or is not milemeters?
Parent - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 07-18-2011 03:02
That sounds more like it. Someone on eBay was selling 3/4" diameter welding rods, one at a time just for the novelty of it.

Stan is on that "Sh*t" again. He thinks his new Red Face is better than a Vantage ! Yeah Right ! Well, It's his story, I guess he can tell it like he wants to.My Vantage makes me money while it is sitting in my driveway. Bet the SAE 300 won't do that.

All hype !! A real welder can weld with anything !! I'm actually getting rig pay and ain't cranked my machine in weeks that old tack rig has millers on it and I hate them but I have made nearly 1,200 20" welds so far without a repair so do the math !! All hype !! If they'll make a spark I can weld with them!!
Parent - By hillbilly delux (***) Date 07-18-2011 03:33
I would agree with Johnny any decent welder can make a weld with any machine. It's just some machines make your job easier.
Parent - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 07-18-2011 12:50
Not trying to kiss any booty but I have to agree with that statement Johnny, a welder should be able to weld with anything.
