Have a customer that wants to qualify a WPS with a fillet weld in accordance with D1.1 as that is all that is required in their production. All the WPS testing I have been involved with before have been groove welds. Does a fillet weld need to be NDT tested prior to mechanical testing as groove welds do? In the 2010 D1.1 code book 4.9.2 says that "before preparing mechanical test specimens the qualification test plate pipe or tubing shall be nondestructively tested for soundness". Leads me to believe that both fillets and grooves require NDT. Am I reading this right? Thanks
