The B5 documents of today are written fairly generically towards each of the subject matters. There are specific recommendations as to experience requirements, etc. The B5 Committee was originally formed when the AWS Board of Directors decided that the former Qualification and Certifications Committee (originally a single committee) should be separate entities to closer follow the international scheme of things (this was not a very popular decision among the existing committee members). So.... to cut through a lot of history, what you see as today's B5 Standards are, for the most part, the re-written Q&C standards of old. There are a few "new" topics that were added and I personally feel they are of some value to industry. I don't know if that helps much, let me know if you have some specific questions I can help with.
