We are having a heck of a time weld repairing AISI 4340. The problem we have is finding a weld wire that can meet our mechanical properties.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this and could lend some insight.

Our mech props are as follows:
T: 145 kpsi
Y: 130kpsi
BHN: 301-353
CVN: 31 ft-lbs @ -20C

What sort of post weld heat treat are you going to do?

A lot of things are missing here.

Original weldment specs.
Tensile/yield required.
Shape/thickness, etc of original weldment.
Pre heat/post weld heat treatment.

Let us know these things, and I am sure a suitable procedure will appear!

Good Luck
