I am new in the field and would like to know where do you start and end your length measurement. Do you sub tract part of your start and stop puddle or do you use the full length. This is in critical welds in chassis.

Regards

Hennie

Welcome to the forum Hendrick

**Most** standards say that you cannot count starts or terminations in weld length unless they have full cross sectional thickness that is required in the design weld sizing.

This type of information is likely found in what ever standard you are producing chassis to.

What is the governing standard for your welding?

I agree with Lawrence's statement about the not counting the starts and stops unless they are full cross-section. Welds are measured centerline to centerline when measuring length and pitch of intermittant fillet welds. You may want to inquire about those stops and starts, the designer may want at least the stops full, because if the craters are not full, they more than likey have crater cracks in them from the shrinkage of the puddle.
