I recall seeing a History channel program on NASA and the crane operators who assemble the space shuttle did regular training...one exercise involved setting a 10 ton block of steel on top of an egg, pinching the egg between the block and the floor without breaking the egg.

Hello devo, a lot of years ago I was involved in a Boeing project on the mechanical end. The general was an electronic controls specialist. They had been involved in another project during the time when they were piggy-backing the space shuttle on a special Boeing 747 and had designed the controls to enable the crane to place the shuttle on the back of the 747 within height parameters of .005" +/-. They also had the ability to maintain very close control on the speed as well. I did find that very fascinating and hadn't even considered things like that until they brought it up while we were BS'ing on one of our breaks. Regards, Allan
