This guy has several videos out there and most are real good quality. I've watched several of them because I remember the big welder. Real good vids though, nice country and what is all of that white junk?

Darn white junk anyways!!!  Been working with a 73yr old pipeliner who's been at it since he was 17!! This guy just loves what he does and is at the gate(5am) before the boss is. His first machine is a 1950 Lincoln and is still using it today!!

You should be here for storytime. I asked him,"Joe,how many pipelines have you been on?". He says," All of them".

That looks like an easement somewhere in Northern Canada, or Alaska. Somewhere where there is enough permafrost to make those spruce trees so raggedy looking.....

One thing I want to know is at what insane heat that guy has his amperage set, to whip that hippy rod that dang fast......a gozillion amps, or what?
Parent - - By up-ten (***) Date 06-13-2012 10:55
Looks like northern Alberta and still below permafrost line. Ya, I'm surprised he didn't pop thru once or twice.

especially on the bottom

Also looks just like northern BC in the winter where I do a lot of work.  I think it is from a Wilbros job in the Fort Mac area of Alberta though.   Probably about -10 to -20C range as they don't look too cold.  Best temp and time of the year to pipeline

Put a SA200 on 240 and 80 with a 5/32 then hang on. You will be right at the edge of the IPM allowed on most procedures. I have seen HP hands able to run top to bottom on a 12 inch with 2 rods. Run from 12 to 4 then 4 to 7.
Have LOTS of starch in your shirts!
Parent - - By Sourdough (****) Date 06-16-2012 01:14
Yeah, starch and a new pair of gloves handy.....

I run the same way on the hp, but I'm too scared of the giant hole I would have to repair, if I slipped. About 180 amps is about as fast and hot as I dare go...

Guess I'll never stack up....get it?
Parent - - By dbigkahunna (****) Date 06-17-2012 03:10
Stacking up is the LAST thing you want to do at 240/80. And hope the grinding hand has left you something.
Parent - By Sourdough (****) Date 06-17-2012 06:53
And grinding hands sometimes leave a blue spot....
