I've been asked to find the sizes and materials list for the test coupons going to be used for testing from 1" to 6" A-105 where would I find the test coupon sizes I need to find them today also so any advice or direction would be helpful.
thanks

Landon,
The first place to start is by knowing the code involved because you will find the specs within the applicable code. Hard for us to guide you without that foundational information.
After you have that you will need to know the welding process involved. In some applications that can make a difference.
Then, Fillet welds or Groove welds? Tacker, Welder, or Welding Operator? WPQR or PQR (the person or the procedure)?
Just my two pennies worth from the information available.

I actually found everything I needed I think but for the sake that I missed something (code ASME 9.......PROCESSES GMAW AND SMAW, FILLET AND GROOVE WELDS....PQR) ive got the thickness of the test coupons that would qualify both the groove and fillet using the A-105...p NO 1 material but im now wondering what lengths the test coupons should be.
any idea where I could find the lengths that the coupons should be cut to or is it just a general length for all coupons?
D1.1 I could help you with, But I am not an ASME Section IX guy. Hopefully some of our Almost Sometimes Maybe Except experts will come along asap

Look in QW-211 PREPARATION OF TEST COUPON and all your answers await.

A105 is not pipe.
ASTM/ASME A105/SA105 is for flanges.

Hi,
May be you can use A106 Gr.C instead A105 .
My company use the test coupon on Fillet Weld Size : Pipe 3" Sch. XX length 75 mm. + Plate Size 200 X 200 ( Refer D1.1 )
and the Butt Weld : Pipe Size length 160 mm. + Pipe Size length 160 mm. ( I think test coupon will be sufficient for test )
Sorry for my English

The code may list a minimum length, but often times the length is dictated by the bending machine used for the guided bend tests and the if necessary, the tensile testing machine.

I agree with Al, and sometimes the codes will only list the type and number of tests that are required...not necessarily give you a length perse'. From the type and number of tests you can figure out the length required to get all of those cut out of your sample coupon. If you are still in question about the length, call your testing lab and speak with them about the testing required and they can recommend a length that will allow them to cut all of the tests out of your coupon. Hope that helps.
your right, my bad it was actually A-106-B for the material.
