We having been using 2 Wachs SDB-103 pipe beveling machines for maybe 5 or 6 years now in our welding school. They have been doing a good job for us. We mostly use them on 2 and 3 inch carbon steel (including 2" Sch 160), but also do limited work on 304 3" Sch 40. It was the only machine I could find that was American made.
Henry, my very good friend e h wachs great stuff...think I let the other guys keep them after I stopped needing them baleigh have some of their woodworking stuff great stuff both have top notch equipment sincerely, Kent
I use a hypertherm powermax 85 with mechnical torch set-up with a pipebully positioner. I made a stand to hold adjustable torch heights and modified an H&M head. Two inch would be pushing the ipm a little, 4 in diameter and up like a dream. For beveling plate you could easily get a torch line burner and put the mechanical plasma torch in it, assuming you have proper ventilation. For weld training the set-up paid for itself in one class due to material savings since you can cut the welds out at the fusion line and keep using the nipples. I have a millhog as well but never use it anymore. Slow in comparison.
