With respect to personnel qualification only and not to base metal or process to D1.1, my question is if qualifying on a 6G what are the requirements and what is the individual qualified to weld on?

I only see a 6GR figure 4.27 form 2010

Looking at Table 4.11 I see it only references T, K, Y connections with Min Dihedral angles of 30 and Unlimited Max.

I thought you could qualify on a 6G without a Restrictor ring and have have a typical V-Groove open root joint and this would qualify you and every position.  It looks like this only qualifies the welder with T, K, Y connections and not butt joints.

Table 4.10 in D1.1 2010 should help answer your question.

Ok. I'll check it out.

Does anyone know a typical pipe base metal that most companies use to qualify on?  Not HSS, but pipe.
