Just curious who is voting for who in the possible presidential election and why you are voting for that particular candidate.

I'd like to vote for Al (803056).

Why? - Because we need a no nonsense candidate who is short on rhetoric and long on facts, and also doesn't give a damn about political correctness...

Tim
Parent - By jwright650 (*****) Date 03-15-2016 12:22
A second vote for Al
For the same reasons that Tim gave.

Maybe Tim will be a running mate for VP?
Parent - By Lawrence (*****) Date 03-15-2016 15:23
Al is not short on rhetoric :)
Parent - - By Trackergd (**) Date 03-15-2016 12:30
Al, with Brent as VP.

I will second this idea!

I'd vote for Al in a heart beat.
Short of that...

Say what you want about trump, but he's not a career politician.

He may just bring our trade out of the toilet, and let us name our price again...
- - By 803056 (*****) Date 03-15-2016 15:17
I'm not sure I would want to run against Trump. He would either sue me or punch me in the face. I cry all too easily and I might drown him in my tears.

Now Executive Director of AWS, that I could consider. First order of business; revise the New Farm Code D1.1-2015 and get rid of the BS regarding welding on surfaces that are wet, oily, greasy, painted, or heavily encrusted with rust.

I Want Your Vote! What's it going to cost me?

Best regards - Al

I did a Google search but came up empty.

But it's prolly been quite some time since an American President wore suspenders !

How about measuring tape suspenders.... Where is Joe when you want to razz him? First and only set of suspenders like those that I have seen in my lifetime.

Parent - - By Trackergd (**) Date 03-15-2016 16:07
  Do those come with a calibration sticker?

Reminds me of the time I was in the hospital and my doctor walked up wearing his white coat open at the front..he had a T shirt on with all the internal organs printed on it.  I pointed at it and he said it was so he could remember where everything was located...
Parent - - By CWI555 (*****) Date 03-15-2016 16:22
Suspenders with a calibration sticker...now that there is funny

I wonder how hard a write in campaign for Al would be...
Parent - - By MRWeldSoCal (***) Date 03-15-2016 19:50
We should all at least get him on the ballot.  I mean .001% of the vote is a start.  AL 2020!
Parent - - By TimGary (****) Date 03-16-2016 12:26
Looks like I did a pretty good job of hijacking your post... so let me say this to make amends.

This election seems to be another case of not who I want to vote for, but who I want to vote against.
IMHO...
The only thing worse than having Hillary for President would be Bernie.
Why? Because they both would only serve to further the ruination of our country.
I would hate to have to vote for Cruz, because I think he's a snake.
I would vote for Rubio over Trump, even though I think we need a non-career politician in the white house to shake things up, but I will vote for Trump if I have to, even though it would leave a very bad taste in my mouth, just to vote against Hillary or Bernie.
The only candidate who has impressed me enough to be comfortable in voting for, is Carson.
However I would feel bad about it because actually being President would ruin a good man.

The problem with the situation which has developed is that anybody would be have to be crazy to actually want to be president in this day and age, which guarantees that we'll wind up with a lunatic president.

I have so many friends and family all over the board for who they are choosing.  I cant and can see the logic in it all but at the same time I just dont know.  I feel like Bernie is trying to unite the country in a good way and he seems honest but the older I get, the harder I work, the more I make the less I want to pay for other people who choose to do nothing.  As a country though I believe we should take care of our own but when they dont really want to work for the greater good I have trouble believing it.  I really want a flat tax. I hate the idea of the more you make the more they take. I really makes hard working people not care and want to work less hours.  It also seems like it would be bad for the economy to give less over time money to hard working people.

Any thoughts about how wrong I am? hahaha

You know, I don't mind helping people who need help, and I do when I see a friend in need. But to just take it from me and hand it out to whomever, now, that gets my goat. I don't want to feel the Bern in my pockets without my consent.
I have friends and family voting all over the board too....I'm just thankful that we still have the right to vote. The older I get, the more I see our rights in this country being taken away so not to offend some group or sect.
Parent - By MRWeldSoCal (***) Date 03-16-2016 18:48
Yea haha everyone is getting so sensitive and everyone is getting offended.  I dont like the lesser of the two evils choice.  I dont trust either Trump or Hilary at all and for different reasons.  Hilary just seems to bold face lie and hide everything she can and cut every corner to get a vote.  Trump is a wild card and I have no idea what he is capable of doing.  I just cant believe these are our options.  No one more qualified wants the job?  These two are the voice of the united states?
Parent - By TimGary (****) Date 03-16-2016 18:45
Flat tax is a good idea. The same for everyone and every business, with no more tax exempt status or tax shelters.
I think that this could be done at no more than 15%.
Please keep in mind that Bernie is a socialist. Sure flat tax is one of his things, but to him, that means tax everyone for everything they've got, and then redistribute as the government sees fit.
Parent - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 03-19-2016 15:36
You're not wrong. Over about 6 years ago my company grossed nearly $130,000. After the tax beating I took that year I decided to back off. I now have managed to be in the $80's on gross and due to some wise business spending and deductions break even or get a few hundred bucks back, just not willing to bust my hump to support lazy bums. So, I take a few months off each year, work hard the other. Won't get rich but won't be forking over thousands to the incompetent fools at the IRS either to wiz away on the people that think I owe them something.

Its funny how there are prob regular people out there with zero political experience who can solve a major budget the size of the US and we don really look for them.  Why isnt it a contest to see whos plan is the best and hire a decent committee to review a few hundred ideas.  Seems like it would be worth the investment.

There are no good options at this point. No one wanted to bleed, yet it would have righted us.
Instead the can was kicked yet again. Too big to fail should have failed yet they did not.
Instead the chosen sacrificial lamb was sent to slaughter (Lehman Brothers), it's parts consumed by others.

The road is infinite for no one, thing, or organization however much they wished it were not so.
At some point the can will either collapse, or no longer have sufficient profile to to kick anymore.
It won't matter what we called ourselves 'when' that time comes. No one will have the coin to pay the piper.

I want to see a businessman who has no favors( lobbiest, special interest, etc. ) to return for their backing........As in $$$$$. .....Trump has enough money and is spending his OWN MONEY for his campaign ...... The statis quo are fearful of him, as he is going to shake up their  thiefdoms ...... All politicians are worried that he will end their political entitlements (republicans and democrats)...... I'm sick and tired of having the government " in my pocket at every turn" and I want to see a change in the way our government is run....( no budget to go by ....just raise taxes) No backbone in foreign affairs ( terrible negotiations) I'd like to see other countries " fear sitting down to negotiate a deal with ruthless businessmen" ......Believe me , being in business I've seen some pretty harrowing things , in business meetings go on....Would like foreign governments ( China, Middle East, North Korea , and on and on) get a taste of that !!!!!!!! Like Trump says " let's make America great again" !!!!!!!!!! Just my two cents guys.......

Have you seen this on HBO?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnpO_RTSNmQ   It was interesting haha

The problem as I see it is if Trump is elected, both parties will will cause a partisan deadlock.  Any BS either party sends up for his signature will be veto'd, and no chance they will back him on anything.   Frankly I think one or the other party will kill him off before the election because he would shine a bright light on all the free perks they get, including college for their kids and grandkids and the fact they do not have to live with the insurance program they voted in for the rest of the public to suffer under.   As for me, I am either going to learn Russian or Chinese so I am ready for one or the other to march in while our government squabbles like a bunch of 3 year olds.
Parent - - By Don56 (**) Date 03-18-2016 19:22
Our founding fathers never intended for the elected to be career politicians.  But these snakes have turned it into a bonanza for themselves as Trackergd stated.  It's time for the people to initiate a new constitutional amendment that sets term limits, reasonable salaries, no pension just like the majority of Americans, and definitely bind their healthcare to the mandates they inflict on the people.  They should be serving out of love of country like a soldier does.  "Do unto others" works in politics as well as in society.
Parent - - By Lawrence (*****) Date 03-18-2016 20:16
Franklin and Jefferson were both career politicians. (and scoundrels)

John Adams and Washington fit your mold :)
Parent - - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 03-19-2016 15:52
They're all a bunch of snakes. Trump or Cruz for me. Hitlery should be in jail, Bernieshenkov will have me supporting 6 other families before it's said and done. Squabbling like grade schoolers completely ignorant of what the public wants. Look at the delegates for the RNC. The comment by one the other day saying the public does not pick the candidate, we do. So, just like the electoral college the American public is lured into this false sense of having some sort of power. Meanwhile a handful of privileged turd herders worried about their luxury political dream career are steering the ship instead of the people of this country.

Interesting times ahead. Problem is everybody is concerned with what I'm doing, bunch of busy bodies.

Slightly off topic but reading your note under your post, "burn a copy of d1.1" and I'm glad I didn't spend the money on it. Been reading and seeing that a lot lately.:eek:
Parent - - By 803056 (*****) Date 03-19-2016 18:41 Edited 03-19-2016 18:44
It is beyond me how a group of educated people can allow such a change to pass and be included in an otherwise "gold standard" of welding. They just made the D1 committee the laughing stock of the welding world. How embarrassing it must be to have one's name listed between the front and back page of the standard.

Even the beginning welder learns pretty quickly that it is a poor practice to weld on a surface covered with residual oil, grease, or water. It proves the connection between being smart and educated is rather loose. Being educated doesn't necessarily mean one is smart.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

They should have added, "Welding on galvanized metal without grinding is Ok", that would save a lot of people I work with a ton of headaches. I mean, if you can weld over oil, grease or water, why not galvanizing?? Haha, Now I know why you called it Farm Code 2015!!

Good point Shawn.

Don't forget rod ovens...why on earth do we need dry low-hy electrodes when they are just going to use them to weld over water?

Brent
Parent - - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 03-21-2016 12:10 Edited 03-21-2016 12:15
Like button!! Maybe we are trying to rewrite the code to come in line with Chinese welding code,:lol:

If you get rid of the rods from the oven you can then use it for what it was designed for, cooking biscuits, slow cooking a steak.
Parent - - By Trackergd (**) Date 03-21-2016 16:08
I have been to China..twice to looks at welds.   They hire workers off the farm, put them in dormitories on the factory grounds and let them practice on scrap steel.  When they make welds that look somewhat OK, they let them weld for a while, then teach them how to run welding robots.  Behind each robot is a guy with a TIG machine and a grinder fixing all the discontinuities.  The certs for the steel and fill are questionable at best.  At both plants I was at, they had no idea what D1.1 was...   If there is a "Chinese Welding Code", it must be reserved for military projects.

Al, I have tried to talk to a couple of folks who sit on various AWS standards committees and other chapters about this and as soon as I start discussing the issue, I get the eye roll and mumbling.
Parent - - By MRWeldSoCal (***) Date 03-21-2016 22:48
Maybe I am wrong but growing up as a kid I thought that we all wanted to help people, heck Ill be a democrat.. Then I started making money.  The more I make the more they take and it was a sour taste in my mouth having to face that growing up.  The harder you work the more you sacrifice of your living life they take it from you.  Too many people out there dont give one single ****. Not one.  They will milk the system and drain the workers, some cant help it and some can.  The idea of effort had gone from most people.  Of say 40 people I grew up only a few are able to fully support themselves with a comfortable life on their own.  Believe it or not its not the college grads, its the electrician, the oiler, the welder.  Amazing and we cant fill welding jobs with good welder fast enough.

Rant complete

But it explains some of Marco Rubio's quotes about Welders and philolisophers.
