I'm confused. Your symbol looks correct to me. The one at the bottom of the page. Arrow side is the bottom of the reference line and other side is the top. That looks correct for the joint to me.
The only thing I would add, put "Typ both sides" in the tail to indicate that both the bottom joint and the top one get the same treatment. That would fit with his example where both sides are welded with the one welding symbol.

This appears to be two formed channels. as such, there are three separate joints, each can have a separate welding symbol.
The top and bottom legs are separate joints, although they are the same weld detail. Tim's symbol appears to be fine if Brent's comments are incorporated. The web of the channel is a separate joint, that, if welded, requires a separate and different symbol.
