Happy New Year~~
1. Applied Code: AWS D1.5(2015)
2. Question : Fillet Weld WPS Qualification (Single & Multiple pass)
1) AWS D1.1, Table 4.3, Note c ( Any PJP qualification shall also qualify any fillet weld
size on any thickness) requirement is applied to AWS D1.5 ??
2) If test is need, AWS D1.5, para.5.10.2(Fillet weld mechanical property test) & Para.5.10.3(Fillet weld soundness test)
both test shall be performed??
3) Why qualification test & WPS requirements is different between Para.5.10.2 and Para.5.10.3?
*5.10.2 Fillet Weld Mechanical Property Tests - WPSs shall be qualified in accordance with 5.12 using Figure 5.1
*5.10.3 Fillet Weld Soundness Test - WPS Shall be qualified within the limitation of variables in Table 5.4.
4) In case of performing above 2 tests, Please advise me about preparing the WPS & PQR
1) No. D1.1 does not apply to D1.5
2) Single pass Fillet Welds are exempt from Mechanical Testing as per 5.10.2. Multipass fillet welds are not exempted and must have Mechanical Testing. Both Single and Multipass Fillet welds require Soundness Tests. (Unless exempted by 5.11 or 1.3.7)
3) Read the Commentary in the back of D1.5-2015 for 5.10.1, 2 & 3
4) Prepare the WPSs based on the parameters and results of the PQRs & FWSTs.

Thanks for reply. I need more study for AWS D.1.5...
Adam is correct in my opinion. The only exception being if the engineer were to accept it if submitted for approval.
D1.1 and D1.5 generally are not going to overlap.
The "ANY" terminology is referring to others within the same code.

Does diameter and thickness qualification applicable for a FILLET weld WPS qualified by AWS D1.1??
Dear experts,
I have a fillet weld WPS qualified according to AWS D1.1:2010. Can I use this WPS to weld FILLET WELD ON ALL DIAMETER PIPES? . But in the WPS they have imposed the restriction clearly to ' 600 mm dia. & over only'. But in AWS D1.1:2010 it was not clearly mentioned. So my question is does this diameter restriction applicable for Fillet welds??
Regards
If your qualified WPS restricts the diameter, that is all you can weld with that WPS...however I suppose you could qualify and write another WPS to fit what you need.
Thank you i can understand that ,but my question is does the code specify that or not? if the code doesn't specify, is it possible to revise the WPS than re qualify a new WPS?
In D1.1:2010, see Table 4.4-Note 'c' and Table 4.2(2) for diameter limitations. It will be based on the diameter and thickness of the tests.
Thank you Adam, but the table clearly says that qualification for groove welds not for fillet welds,i.e the same criteria will applicable for fillet welds too??
Table 4.4 is for fillet welds....and note "c" (See Table 4.2(2) for pipe diameter qualification) is under Table 4.4. So yes, Table 4.2 (2) does apply.
