My name is Abi, I wanna ask about thickness of weld metal Qualified for Welder on the ASME IX Table QW 452.1(b)
there mention for coupon of test over 13 mm, the qualification for welder is max to be welded, What is the meaning of Max to be welded ? Is it same with the unlimited ?
Thanks
Maximum to be welded is in reference to the WPS And it’s max. Weld deposit. Example, If WPS has a 8” max weld deposit allowed then the welder is qualified to weld to the max allowed on WPS. Don’t no if that came out right. Hope it helps.
It is "unlimited" in the sense it is only limited by the maximum thickness permitted by the WPS. That is conditional on the welder welding an assembly that was at least 13 mm thick and deposited with at least three layers. In other words, if the 13 mm was welded in one pass, he isn't qualified for "unlimited" thickness.
