I am currently a student attending Mitchell Technical Institute studying to achieve an associates degree in the field of welding.

Currently we are studying D1.1 2015 edition and I am looking at Figure 6.1. Does anyone have any suggestions or ways of finding the discontinuities allowed for the in-between weld sizes indicated on this figure?

Not sure I understand the question.

But I think your answer lies in Figure 6.1 Notes 1 & 2 using the graph above it.  

Remember that this figure covers several pages,  and is used to aid calculation of scans using the Ultrasonic Testing method (UT) for subsurface discontinuities.

Thank you for the reply.

Looking at the notes it does not quite answer my question. I took a look at 6.12.1 and seen for RT that the maximum size of discontinuity allowed is E/3 which helps find the in- between sizes such as a 5/16 fillet weld.

Keep in mind that RT and UT are completely different NDT methods.

I'm looking at Fig 6.1 now that I have my D1.1 in front of me and I see your question now about the in between sizes. The 0-1.125 chart shows E (let's pick a 1/2" weld) being plotted across to B and it falls in between 5/16 and 3/8. It is closer to the 5/16, however I'm not sure if you round up or down to the next size or not. My gut tells me yes, but I haven't put my eyes on the answer yet. The note B in the Legend on page 217 just says maximum allowed dimension of an RT'd discontinuity. Let me know if you find it.

Maybe some of the guys on here who RT on a regular basis can shed some light on this for us.
