I have been a CWI for a few years now and I work full time for a good company. I have been contacted by another company to qualify some welders. I have a little machine shop as a side business. I have also made some guided bend test equipment per various codes. My question is: after administering the welding test. Can take them plates back to my shop and cut, prep, bend and evaluate the coupons per code (accept/reject) and write WPQ? Or do I have to send them to a certified test LAB?? These questions also apply to machining and mechanical testing of PQR's.  Any information on this would be great.  Thank you.

None of the US Codes I am aware of place requirements on the lab doing the testing. The testing is often done by the manufacturer or contractor.

If I were a company having someone else doing the testing, I would want to see their procedures and equipment used. Maybe an audit of some type.
