Welding process in PQR & WPS is SMAW + FCAW
Joint design : Single Vee - Butt groove

As per this PQR & WPS, can I use this PQR&WPS to do production welding for fillet weld by FCAW process only?

No reference to a code makes things difficult. What code are you working with and someone may be able to point you to the information you need.

AWS D1.1, Sir

Hey Denny,
Just for clarification, are you saying that the WPS/PQR uses a combination of weld processes to make a multi-pass groove weld, and you want to know if you can use only one process to complete the entire weld?

Yes, Tyrone. We plan to use this groove WPS (SMAW+FCAW) for groove weld and fillet weld size 6mm only. Groove weld use same combination process but for fillet weld we plan to use FCAW process only due to less weld size.

The answer is NO.
You do not have an approved WPS for FCAW only.

Hi Denny
Does the Single V-Groove supporting PQR and WPS have backing or is it an open root groove weld?
We really need to know what welding code applies here to make any real informative comment due to the code having essential variables that need to be adhered to.
Also wondering why there isn't a fillet weld WPS for placing FCAW fillet welds already in the file to use.

Also wondering why there isn't a fillet weld WPS for placing FCAW fillet welds already in the file to use. (because as per AWS D1.1 groove weld WPS (multiple pass) can cover any size of fillet weld but i am not sure if we can split the welding process in this WPS as per AWS D1.1, Sir)

Subject:
Code Edition: D1.1-90
Code Provision: Subsection 5.5
Qualification of Multiple Welding Processes
AWS Log: 1-9/9 1-1 0-03
Inquiry:
(I) Can one or more welding processes be deleted from a quaiifred welding procedure in accordance
with AWS D1.1, subsection 5.5, if each of the essential variables for each of the remaining
processes is maintained?

Response: (1) No.

What is the material you are welding ?
Can you use a pre-qualified WPS ?
