Hello All,
We are working to AWS D1.2:2014. Looking to qualify a WPS for welding a thin-walled tube (0.049" thick and 0.75" diameter) to a 0.375" thick plate with a flare bevel groove weld.
We are able to weld this configuration and take three macros showing the specified weld size is obtained (per 3.15.5.2(1)), but the challenge comes on supporting with CJP PQRs to cover the thickness range.
My read is that we would have to perform two CJP PQRs; one covering the 0.049" thickness and the other covering up to the 0.375" thickness. Is that correct? Could we do it in one CJP test by welding a 0.049" sheet to a 0.375" plate and machining off the extra material after welding to get the bend and tensile samples? Or, could we take the 0.049" thickness as the limiting thickness and only perform a CJP PQR qualifying the 0.049" thickness?
