i just started welding after getting a hobart handler 125. pretty cool stuff. anyway, i want to build an aluminum platform in the back of my truck, so i was hoping to get some suggestions for MIG welding aluminum with such a small machine. i know i probably won't get the best welds, but that doesn't bother me too much. thanks.

A platform out of 22ga? That's about all you can expect to weld in al with that machine, and you'll have to invest in a tank of 100% argon to do that. I'd concentrate on building your technique on mild steel and then buy a welding power source suited for aluminum welding. For GMAW, you'll need at leat a 200 amp machine for decent welds. You may be better off looking into GTAW if you're serious about al.
