I was wondering about a Snap-On welder and how good they really are. A guy in town has a Snap-On MIG welder for sale. Its a 110 and he claims he paid 3,000 for it and just put 900.00 into it. He wants 1000.00 for it. Is that a good deal or not?

Nope - not a good deal. List on a brand new Lincoln SP135+ or a Millermatic 135 runs $700 - and you can get them discounted for around $550. These are good quality, 115v MIG welders.

It has 100% duty cycle. I dont know what those others have?

I doubt that the machine is going to have 100% duty cycle on anything thicker than thin sheet metal, which makes the rating misleading. A duty cycle is supposed to be a rating of the machines ability at a heavy work load somewhere near its max capacity. Snap-on doesn't make their own welders so a $1000 for it is way over priced. I would spend a couple hundred more and get a millermatic 210 and a three year warranty. Besides buying new is always a better bet than a machine that doesn't have a warranty.

Go to a local welding supply center. They can sell you a miller or lincoln 135 for around $500.00. But I personally would sugest a miller or lincoln 175 you will be much happier with your purchase.

I agree with PJSEAMAN, if you have that much to spend get a larger brand name machine with the 3 year warranty. Snap-On does not make their own power supplies. They are like all other off brand machines, made to order from over-seas with a different paint color and maybe a different outer shell. Go with the Miller or Lincoln. just my .02 also

I have a snap-on mig welder, its a y212 or something, i dont remember the number. anyway, its a 220/240 volt machine and its ok, but not better by no means than a miller or lincoln. i dont know who makes them for snap-on, but i'd buy a miller any day over a snap-on. i got a really good deal on the snap-on, i couldnt pass it up.
It sounds like that guy that said he paid $3000 either is bsing or he got ripped off.
