Hi,
I would like to run my Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 welder off of a generator. 225 amps x 25 volts = 5625 watts. Is there anything more to it than that? Will a regular 6 kw generator do the trick?
Thank you very much,
Michael

You need to determine what the input power requirements are for your welder and size your generator for that. The 225 amps at 25 volts is the output. Input requirements should be on the machine information plate or in the owner's manual.

Lincoln says your welder draws 50 amps at max output on AC, 36 amps at max DC. That's 11500 watts and 8280 watts respectively. The machine will draw less current at lower settings. It seems that your 6 KW machine is small for the job although it might work at low welder outputs.

Chet and Bill,
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. The information that you were kind enough to provide was exactly what I needed.
Thank you,
