I'm looking for the English name/term when the welding wire is fixed at the contact tip or the product. This for example after a bad start of the welding process. I'm living in the Netherlands and I only now the Dutch word "vastbrander".

I'm also looking for some information about how to avoid this.

I think the phenomena you are describing is a term we english speakers in the GMAW trades call "burnback"
