We are preparing to weld some nickel pipe Alloy 200. By nature of the beast the puddle just does not want to flow. Any tips or insights that might help would be greatly welcomed.

You are right about the lack of fluidity of nickel welding wire. Try using the "key hole" method and that will allow you to make better welds.

Thanks Chuck, we'll try that too,. Another question in terms of shielding. I have read one recomendation from Hastelloy that contrary to common practice, it is recommended that the purge pressure be somewhere in the range of 4X the torch presure, torch pressure being reduced to about 10 cfh. What are your thoughts on that?

40 cfh is not out of the practical range for the purge. You just need to make sure that you have an escape hole before you tie in your final portion of the root pass so you won't "blow out" the last of the bead. Your torch pressure seems just a little low, but if you are in a perfectly still environment, and no breeze or wind, then 10cfh could work.
