Has anyone an opinion of the Lincoln Precision TIG 185 as a basic TIG trainer?

Lincolns precision tigs are AWSOME to say the least. invertec vpro's may be better in some cases as far as versatility but the 185 is an all around good machine go for it, and millers, well nevermind i dont want to offend anyone

Is this for yourself, or is this for training a group of welders?

The PrecisionTIG 185 is a 220V/1P machine and is great for home or light industrial use. If you want something to take a beating from everyday use by multiple welders, or want a 3-phase machine, then there are others that would be better.

Hi edrews!

I agree with MBSims comments on opting for a heavier duty power source if you're training a group of welders...

The Lincoln Precision TIG 275 package is an excellent choice...
The Miller Dynasty 300 DX is another excellent choice...
I also heard thermal Arc has a very decent machine that's reasonably priced...

I guess it comes down to economics sometimes in the choices people make when it comes to purchasing power sources that have reasonably good warranties and technical support so, ask your distributors (in other words, shop around) plenty of questions!
Best of luck with your choice!

Respectfully,
