There is an electrode in AWS specification for alloy steels
i think is 7018-W (w from weathering steels) , since corten is a weathering steel

Here's a link to a previous posting:

This can be a quandry, depending on the code used.

As a strength thing any 70 or 80 (preferably) should work.

If color match is needed, follow the ESAB recommewndations that should steer you to a Ni-1 type electrode.

The codes do give us a break for single pass welds, opting for the non-nickel wire.

Check your customer and contract. You'll know what to do then.

Good Luck

You have had some good responses here. I'm not intending to repeat what others have posted, but I wanted to add that we normally use E8018-C3 electrode for a color match electrode for A588/ Corten. As was mentioned, if the weld is a single pass weld, then it is assumed that there will be enough alloy admixture to give the weld metal some weathering properties.

On multiple pass welds, you can either weld it all the way out with 8018-C3, or can weld it most of the way with 7018 and use 8018-C3 for your cover passes. Either one will work but the 7018 may be cheaper for you.
