Which is the suitable electrode to weld reinforcing steel (ASTM A615 Grade 60) to a structural steel plate (ASTM A36)?

The reinforcing bar size is #8 (25mm of diameter) and it will be welded in a perpendicular form respect to plate plan (thk plate 25mm). It will be used a double –V-groove weld).

Thanks .

While re bar is not generally considered weldable, consult the re bar code.

D1.4, I think...

Rebar is produced with very few requirements as far as chemical composition. Some will weld ok, some near impossible to get a "real weld" in there. It is mostly junk and scrap.

If not a code job-7018 is probably your best bet. E71T-1 if you are using wire.

Stringer beads, of course.

Good Luck

In years past rebar was, as the last reply stated, not specifically required to have a specific composition, at that time welding with E7018 stick was the accepted method. In recent years there have been two types of rebar that has been manufactured, one has a W included in the identifying numbers imprinted in the bar, this is as I have been lead to believe to designate weldable rebar and can either be welded with E7018 stick or E71T-1 dualshield wire. Good Luck, Allan
