I am currently reviewing some WPS proposals. These proposals are backed up by PQRs qualified in 1990 and based on D1.1-1998. I want to check these PQRs against D1.1-2004. Where can I get a summary of the changes to D1.1 to date?

I may be mistaken but I believe there is no need to go through the effort (D1 experts please back me up!)... so long as the PQR was properly qualified at the time of qualification it should remain valid today, even if changes were made in Code matter. I know this is the case with ASME but I don't work much with D1.1 anymore and am too busy to research.

A quick question. If your PQR's where in fact qualified in 1990, how could they have been based on a 1998 edition of the code? I've run into more then a few auditors who may ask you that same question. Other than that- 4.2.1- Qualification to Earlier Editions- Qualifactions which were performed to and met the requirements of earlier editions of AWS D1.1 or AWS D1.0 or AWS D2.0 while those editions were in effect are valid and may be used. So I would think that you really don't need to compare them against the 2004 code.

I agree with the qualification to earlier editions train of thought, but maybe the poster was simply looking for the changes in D1.1 since 1998's edition.

How would one go about collecting that data, without buying the years in between(2000, 2002, and 2004) and copy checking each year for changes? (Not to mention that the edition for 2006 is about to come out)

The codes have been underlined where changes have occurred from the previous year, so you would need those years in between to find all the underlined texts to compare.

Thanks for the replies, especially the reference to Section 4.2.1. I'd thought I needed to go through each edition to find out the changes.

HOLY COW!!! A quick question. If your PQR's where in fact qualified in 1990, how could they have been based on a 1998 edition of the code? Good question, I missed that all together in my initial read! Hmmmm???

The PQRs were dated 1990, but some of the attached mechanical test results were "in accordance with AWS D1.1-88"

A procedure qualified under D1.1 is vaid, no matter what year it was qualfied.

See AWS D1.1-Section. 4.2.1

Good Luck
