Up Topic Welding Industry / Technical Discussions / wiring for Lincoln TIG 185 - help

I have a Lincoln TIG 185 that will go into my garage when it's finally finished. In the mean time, I have an idle 40-amp circuit in my basement. The TIG 185 came with a 50-amp plug-in, can I get by for now with a 40-amp breaker and wiring if I keep the output amps down a little?

I managed to hook up my 220V upright compressor last weekend without electrocuting myself, so there is hope for me,

Probably, the worst that will happen is that the breaker will open.

Thanks for the advice - I got it hooked up Saturday, and it works great. With a 40 amp breaker, I can get 120 amps of DCSP. Haven't tried AC yet, but that's enough for now.
