Hello All
Long time reader first time writer.
We need to weld A588 Corten bar to A387 Gr11 Shapes
Working under AWSD1.1 code, Heres what I came up with.
Would like to use FCAW and need E8100W filler metal for the WPS and PQR.
Any thoughts? MASCWI

FCAW-
If your filler metal is to match the weathering A-588; I'd go with an E81T-1W. (low 90's Ksi.).

If your filler metal is to match the A387, a 1-1/2 Chrome, 1/2 Moly pressure vessel plate, I'd use an E81T-1 B2. (high 90's Ksi).

Both are all position, (FYI-Trimark makes both).

Curious what is the joint config., and what preheat are you going to use?

Bill

The joints are all 3/16" and 1/4" fillets and the material is 1/2" T or less. With 0.20 max C in the A588 and 0.17 max C in the A387-11, 200 F is the pre heat with low hydrogen electrodes

Sticking with the FCAW-

The E81T1-W2 in an H8. (If that is low enough hydrogen for the job.) Smallest dia. available is 0.045" dia.

E81T1-B2 is an H4. Also available in .045" dia.
