We have a set of lathe chuck jaws that revealed small cracks in a sharp 90 degree corner using MPI. The material is 1045 steel which has been nitrided. Any suggestions as to how to proceed or are they junk? Contemplating grinding down the nitrided layer to base metal in the weld zone, building up the corner and machining a radius followed by stress relieving.
