This is an addendum to my previous post "Mobile Unit". The photos are methods I used to incorporate features I may need while out on a jobsite.

1st photo: Folding welding surface 32" X 16" made with 1/4" aluminum

2nd photo: Folding surface in upright position

3rd photo: 1.5" square tubing welded to trailer frame with bottom closed in and drilled for water or moisture drainage. Locking nut 5/16 X 18 welded to outside to tighten vise support.

4th photo: Vise assembly mounted and locked in place.

5th photo: This is a homemade bending jig locked into vise to bend metal up to 2" in width and 1/2" thick. I have a set of different radius inserts that can be quickly changed for different applications.

Hope these photos provide some solutions to those who may want to add versatility to their welding units...Denny

I like that little bending jig!  Do you fold the bar stock around the radiused insert by hand or is there a rotating device that wraps it around for you?

Compliments on some creative solutions.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I bend the stock manually around the radiused insert and if it is hardened metal, I will heat it red. The steel post I made threaded at the bottom so I could change them also for different radii. If I have to make a really tight radius, I just reverse the application and wrap around the rod. Works both ways. BTW...there's a 1/2" X 2"W X 4"L steel plate welded to the bottom so I can chuck it in the vise.

I'm hoping to soon finish a really inexpensive rotating welding positioner that will surprise you. Quite simple and efficient and lots of torque. :>))

Yo, Yorkie dad -
Made a bumper for my Duramax out of Cat 3406 timing chain. Will definately deflect the next deer that intends to inflict more than 3k damage to my truck. When you finally get photos you'll get a sh*t load. My promise!
