Hi in our lab the technicians sometimes use a mapp air torch to silver braze/solder together small parts using 45% silver filler metal.  I wanted to try a few things which couldn't be done easily with the mapp air bernzomatic torch as the long heat cycle quickly cooks the flux.  I was curious about using the welding power supply as a heat source.  I have both a tig torch and a carbon arc torch which lets you touch two carbons together to strike an arc.  I wanted to join a bunch of 1/8" ss rods into a 1/8" thick stainless steel plate with 1/8" holes drilled through.

Any suggestions as to how to do this job without access to an oxy acetylene torch?
TIA

Hi vacuumbikes -
Not sure that your torch can put out enough heat to do the job.   If it is marginal and you are using a white brazing flux you may want to get back with the brazing materials supplier and change to a black flux that has a longer life.
