I am already desing some girders for a pipe rack and their lengths are from 9 to 12 meters, I need to know how many splices can I do on a girder? is there any restriction? I havenĀ“t seen any restriction in the AWS D1.1 for beams, only for girth weld are restrictions. I would appreciate any information about it.

You can search for information on applicable Codes and standards into the AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) site: www.aisc.org
Also, who use to have information on the subject are the Structural Steel Specifications of renowned engineering and construction companies, such as Lummus, M.W.Kellogg, Davy McKee, Brown and Root, Sargent and Lundy, Black and Veatch etc.
Here in Brazil the state oil company, Petrobras, has issued a very good specification on structural steel. What about Ecopetrol?

In tha AISC there are only restrictions for the partial joint penetration, there is none for complete joint penetration.
