ross; we DID have Forum archives, some of them went back a long way. If we actually lost this stuff it would be tragic as a lot of great information was there...
Was there a button for archives, or was it just that there were older materials within the forum?

Ross; if I recall correctly, it was under the search messages option. One could type in a subject matter and then up allow the search engine to find up to 999 posts.
Ross, I have, for example, Page 98 of the Technical Forum, Page 29 of the Cert and Qual Forum etc on my favorites. Up until maybe, 4 or 5 weeks ago, since I have been real busy, I had been accessing those pages from the back towards the present. A great source of info. Now it seems all I am able to access is 2 or 3 pages. There has been a change recently, I am assuming. I just didn't know if it was from my end or the Forum's end. Thanks
Thanks for pointing this out. I have changed the settings to stop cleaning old forums and we will try to restore the old posts. This could take a week because I need someone's help who isn't in this week.

Very cool Ross. I hope you're able to get the archives returned. It's funny, one never notices these types of things until one needs to do some research! ;-)
I used to see around 18,000 old posts for "Shop Talk" and now there are only 1010. The rules used to state (Paraphrasing here) that threads with no new comments would be deleted after 30 days but it didnt seem like that was happening. It would be unfortuanate to lose all that valuable information. For those of us that dont have the privilege to work directly with some of the great people on this forum, those old threads give us an opportunity to access some sage advice, ideas, interpretations, humor, and points of view that we would not have otherwise.
Hope they were saved somewhere.
I agree. Give me a week and we'll probably have the old posts back up.

I think that I brought that up to Barbier when we switched over to the new format...I noticed then that the forum was set up to purge after 30 days and questioned it.
I tried to find "the great alminum foil debate of Turkey day 2003" the other day....but it was gone :-(
Yes, there is so much that must be preserved for future generations.

That would be a tragic loss! :)
What I had done to find them was just use the page designation arrows at the top of the board page and keep going back until it stopped. As you can see right now for Technical it only lists 3. It used to list more and then trail it out with periods. I did this for each forum I was interested in and then worked my way forward in time. There may have been an easier way, but his worked for me. Then each time I completed a page I just placed the next page down, say from 32 to 31 (delete 32 add 31) in my favorites and went right to it. I had a long way to go to catch up with 'now' and my head was fixin to explode but I was learning a lot. Man I hope that stuff ain't lost.
