Sounds like it is 180 degrese out. Does it have a mag, or a dist?

got the mag. ( a-m ).

Ok, got to fire but know I'm guessing the starter is hanging, because when turning over its like its not kicking out and letting it run.
do you know what i'm trying to say

when I picked it up it had been sitting about 2 years. it has new plugs and plug wires. I dropped the pan and cleaned the inside and inspected pump. installed new pan gaskets, new oil filter new oil. installed new carb kit. cleaned out gas tank and ran new gas line w/ filter. not back firing now, got in time now. its turns over and sound like its just about to start and then the starter kicks out. there is gas getting to the carb. its sounding like its not getting enough gas. this help any?

Have you checked the float level in the carb? Is the choke plate closed when cranking? Is it an up draft (carb mounted below the intake mainfold)?

Back when it back fired, did it back fire through the Carb or the Exhaust? If it does not run, what makes you think it is in time? With out the impulse the magneto will not fire hot enough to start the engine. Have you tried some starter fluid (easer to ignite)?

well I found out I had the wires run to the wrong plugs.
