Hell yeah man 2 or 3 days maybe depending on how quick you feel like nocking it out the same scaffold thats the biz.  Draggin your lead and sit up and down 3 scaffolds in one day now thats work man.

2 IN. thick! Do you know what pipe or system it was for? High pressure steam??

Downcomers are pipes that connect the steam drum towards the top of the boiler with the feedwater drum near the bottom of the boiler with the idea of recirculating hot water to preheat the feed water and increase plant efficiency.
And yes, they would be under high pressure and temperature.

js55 knows.

Yes, it takes a minimum of 3 days. They are doing information shots after you get 25% welded out, have to turn the preheat coils off and let it cool before they will XRay it. There is a ton of welding to be done on this job, if I can stand the summer heat. It's a whole lot hotter in Nebraska than Alaska.

Sounds fun! I work at a NUC plant in San Diego CA, We are getting ready for an outage in November. We will be replacing a lot of 1-1/4" pipe chromoly pipe (ER90S/E9018), but I have yet to see >2 in. here.

We have some 16" chrome moly that looks like it's about 3 inches thick. I want no part of that!
