would really appreciate some input from the persons on the forum. What is the best .045 flux core out now for welding of structural steel(clips, wingplates, baseplates etc.) Right now we use KOBE Frontiearc and it is some good wire but we are always looking to improve. Would really appreciate your opinions.   Thanks Jody

Hey Steelers

I was really impressed with a trial I was able to run on some ESAB Dual Shield 710X, here is a spec sheet, http://www.dualshieldx.com/documents/DSX-710x.pdf

And here is a link to a conversation about this wire I like so much

thanks guys.I will try these types. i have never used any blue products. i will check them out and see what all they sell. i have uses alot of esab consumables and machines as well and have been pleased all around. I have a question. I checked out the link on the esab and there is a reference to dipping some samples in "baby oil and quicksilver and glycerine". i have been welding for 20 years and hve neverheard of anything like that. does it really serve a purpose and am i just that stupid or what. i am interested in what purpose it serves in checking. any input greatly appreciated.

esab 7100 ultra c-25/ar-75. awesome all around wire/gas combo. like has been explored earlier in other threads treat like a low hydrogen rod. there are many many combinations of wire/gas that will work well.  depending how much wire/gas you go through costs may or may not be that relevant.

i got some of the esab in this afternoon. didn't get to play with it alot but what i did i liked. ran some welds setting the machine  by factory rec.s and didn't tweak much. wets out really good, toes look great and minimal splatter. costs a little more but gotta weigh it out for the benefit.

I use a Blue shield product, T91. Don't know if it is the best product out there but have produced some fine looking welds with it and have had no issuses with worm holes and poroisity. It also has good penetration and works well out of position. ESAB makes a good wire as well but is not readly available were I live.

is it correct to assume that you are asking about shop welding, not field welding
Parent - - By STEELERS (*) Date 06-25-2007 16:49
yes, shop welding . any help will be appreciated

are you welding in all positions? or is most flat
Parent - - By STEELERS (*) Date 06-25-2007 19:43
75% flatand the rest mostly horizontal, some vertical. we do our test on a 3-g unlimited.

you might look to a flat only position wire for the 75% and an all position for the other 25%
