Good night
According to AWS D1.5:2002, for the welding process for Submerged Arc (SAW) is it possible to use the wire of a maker with the flux of another maker?
Thank you for your answer.

Nothing says you can't, but good luck getting an A5 certificate of compliance for that combination.  I guess you'd have to run all your own A5.17 or A5.23 tests too.

And running your own tests is ligit as far as I know (having not worked in D1.5). I did it for ASME Section III stuff however, when Lincoln's Specials Department was draggin their feet.

AWS D1.5:2002, say in page 74, Certification :

The contractor shall furnish certified copies of test reports for all electrode and flux combinations used on a project in conformance with these filler metal specifications. The report shall include the result of all pertinent required test of AWS A5.17 or AWS A5.23 made on the same classification or grade of electrode/flux combination being used on the project. The test shall have been made on electrodes of the same classification in combination with flux flux of the same brand and composition, and made with the same manufacturing procedure, as the materials furnished. The test may have been por process qualification or quality control and shall have been made within one year prior to the manufacture of the electrode material.

What is your opinion?

Looks to me like you're gonna have to do your own tests, per either 5.17 or 5.23 as applicable.

js55, how could you say that???  I can't imagine the Specials Department dragging their feet, lol!!!!!!!!   ;-)  It only took me 12 weeks to get my order.....

Oh man, don't even get me started. I got pipe rollin in the yard for a 50 mil project and no wire or flux. And they're tellin me the Specials guy went on vacation so they missed their heat/lot cycle. Twice!!! I was sweatin bullits.

My favorite version is having their specials department take you order, and then 4 weeks later say they can't do it to your requriements.

Greg,
Ain't it the truth. Things take long enough as it is much less tto lose time for essentially nothing.
