Is there an AWS Standard for minimum part fitment?  Example welding 1.5" O.D.x .120" wall DOM tubing in a T-Joint to another member of the same dimensions.  Is there a min max Gap using th GTAW process?

Thats a good question....I really don't know 100% but I would hazard a guess to say no.  That sounds more like something that would be in an engineered S.O.P.  or a WPS

Is it a butt weld or a saddle connection?  A T connection with flow or a structural T like for a railing or a roll cage?  If you qualify a procedure useing a certain technique and process just about anything flys, but you have to do all the testing and such.

It would be a T connection.  like for a roll cage, we are making motorcycle frames.

It does say under D1.1 that if there is a gap or poor fit up then the weld size must be extend to what ever size gap you have.  Like say it's calling for a 1/8'' weld on your pipe and you have a 1/16''th gap then you need to lay down a 3/16th fillet weld.  I'll see if i can find that verbage for ya and post back up.  That might have been under non tubular also so i do some checkin and see what i can find.  One of these CWI vets in here might know right off that top of there head so hopefully they'll post up.

Kix,
You're thinking about  D1.1:2006, paragraph 5.22 for fillet welds and other joints.

I found it..  p.197 AWS D1.1 2006  5.22.1   It doesn't refer to tubular or non-tubular it is just tolerance for any joint demension and any process.  If you don't have a code book i can type what it says out for you.
