would anyone have any tips or slight adjustments that they'd be willing to share ? this machine doesnt seem to want to puddle a good bead . i turn it down it sticks , i turn it up it spreads flat and runs to quick . it used to deposit good heavy beads . now its kinda   in effiecent .

Make sure that your high side idle is between 1500 and 1550 rpms and check your OCV's (open circuit voltage). At the above mentioned rpms, your OCV's should be in the 91 to 93 volt range. From experience, dont run it above 93, or you will chance burning up any 110 volt tools that you plug into it. If you need assistance in resetting the OCV's, let me know and I will try to walk you thru it.

Hope this helps,

i would  be very interested in that information  ! how do i check the rpms ? without any meter or gauge on the machine

you can get a handheld rpm gauge at any auto parts house set ur machine to low idle and remove the exciter cove set the gauge end on the exciter and see what it says my ocv's are set at 90 and my machine welds great you also might try cleaning your breushes on your main armitue and exciter check them as well if there are close to the wire you need to change them if the wire touches the arm. or the excter bye bye welder and hello mechanic

you'll need a volt meter 1/2'' wrench and 7/16'' wrench everything is set with the govenor set your machine to high idle set your volt meter to 200v mine is on the left side of the meter put the red and black leads on you ground and hot leads studs of machine and see what it says if it is under 88-89 turn the set screw on govenor towards the magneto until you reach 90 or better keep checking the studs to achieve this if you go to far just back the screw off it's really not hard if i can figure it out i know you can

okay,i think i see what youre saying thank you.

My rpms are at 1550/1560, but the ocv is at about 43-44.  If I bring that up to about 90, like it has been mentioned, the rpms will also go way up.  I'm assuming into the 1700s.  Is there a way to bring up the ocv without bringing up the rpms.  I would like to hear from you guys first, but my first instinct is to adjust the idler arm.

I would really appreciate any help.

Curious to see a response to the above posts. My machine measured at the leads is 86 VDC and at the outlet 130 VDC. Anyone have some more detailed instructions on checking the machines rpm?

my machine is set at 90 at the leads and 118 at the plug welds like a dream anything higher than 117 -118 at the plug and you're burning switches in your tools

mr. sparkee could you walk me through that?

Kind of a rule of thumb that I have always started with........set the governor adjustment bolt to where there is about 1/4" of threads showing. This will give you a starting point. With that adjustment made, reset your high idle to the 1500-1550 range, then check your OCV's. It takes a little time to get everything to the parameters that I mentioned, but this will get you back fairly close to the manufacturers settings. I normally set mine to 1500-1520 rpms and monkey with it until I get the OCV's to the 91-92 range. I might add, that it works better if the machine has been running for awhile so that it is warmed up......because the OCV's will drop after it has been running for several hours. Mind you the drop in the OCV's is only minimal, so it wont effect the weld. I forgot to mention that the machine needs to be set at 3rd gear (120-190) and the fine adjustment needs to be at 100% before you check the OCV's.

Let me know if this helps

Thanks Sparkee,
3rd gear 100% checked the VDC brought the idle down and VDC went from 106 to 90, 117 VDC at the outlet from 130. I'll weld a coupon this after noon and try 'er out.
