Hi,

This is from Peshawar- Pakistan. I am building a dune buggy, will be using 1.5" seamless pipe having a thickness of 0.095". We do most of our welding with 220 arc welders my questions are:

1. Should I use arc welding of mig

2. If I am to use arc should it be AC or DC and what should be the specification of the power, electrodes etc.

3. If I am to use mig which type of mig should I use.

Your base metal thickness is relatively thin, so short circuiting GMAW should work very well.

0.035 inch diameter electrode (E70S-6 for carbon steel) with SG-AC-25% (argon - 75%, CO2 - 25%) shielding gas should work and it will allow you to weld in all positions. You could also consider a metalcored electrode in place of the E70S-6. You'll have better deoxidation with the metalcored electrode.
